“ Ghouls and demons like to appear during storms, usually at night.” The red head read to herself, reclining in her chair. The wind howled outside the library, which was an old building to begin with. It looked like it was about to storm. Off in the distance a light flickered, attracting Mariah’s attention for a brief moment before returning it to the book.
“They prey on the weak, and enjoy playing tricks. Though unlike pixies, Ghouls are usually out to harm, and ghosts could be too; but most only wander aimlessly meaning not to disturb anyone.” She read softly to herself. It wasn't like she was bothering anyone. The building was empty as usual.
… Or was it?
She quickly turned her eyes back to the flickering lights… She was a Crypto-zoologist, so Ghouls would be more her thing… but as for ghosts… She really didn’t have much in the sense of tracking equipment. “Damn it!” She closed the book loudly, dropping it on the desk, and spinning in her chair. A loud THUD echoed through the almost ancient seeming building. It was starting to rain now, so any equipment that she did have would get wet (and possibly ruined) in the process of transporting it here. That and she still had to be here for another three hours… Even if nobody showed up.
She tilted her head back as she reclined a little. This was such a boring job. Why couldn't she just hurry up and actually find something? Then she’d be set! She’d be able to publish her own work, and finally be able to do what she loved. She wouldn't have to sit around this old building any longer. She would be free to be wherever she wanted on a night like this because, well, lots of creepy stuff was supposedly out on nights like this!
She thought to herself quietly, the book had to have something on how to find these creatures without the use of an EMF reader, her compass, or even her camera? She’d make a note to herself later to remember to bring something with her next time… But tonight would have been such a great opportunity! She sighed, looking back down at her book, reading on, trying to see what else she could do to find her little ghostie, or ghoul friend.
She wouldn't let a night like this slip her grasp. She WOULD discover something. She had to! Maybe tonight would finally be her night.
