❝ i've got the medicine that keeps you comin' ❞[/center]
occupation, local doctor. he has worked as a doctor for two years and in ivy point for one. in camellia clinic, he attends to all people without the acceptance of payment. it goes against his moral code. while he may appear indifferent towards his present occupation, it is apparent (when he is at work) that he cares deeply about it and the people that he comes into contact with every day.
personality traits,
- observant, he pays great attention to people whether they know it or not and tends to notice small changes in temperament or otherwise.
- calm, in all situations, ren struggles to keep a level head in order to think clearly and to avoid making decisions rooted in his emotions.
- devoted, as aloof as he may come off as, ren is entirely devoted to his job and the people that he cares for.
- realistic, ren relies heavily on logic to explain all the things that he doesn't understand. as a result, he tends to struggle comprehending things when they cannot be explained in words.
- reliable, when he is needed, ren tries to be there when he is needed and goes above and beyond what he is expected to do when people need his help.
- inexpressive, he tends to appear bored or even disinterested with anyone and anything. and the latter is more often the case.
- insensitive, he doesn't have a 'censor' button. he tends to say whatever may be on his mind without paying attention to how his words may come off to the other.
- aloof, he isn't exactly what you would call friendly. he's a bit distant in nature and more than often will not speak unless spoken to.
- secretive, he has his skeletons in the closet and doesn't have any intentions of letting other people finding out about them ever.
- pessimistic, while ren promises his patients that they will be okay, he can't help but think negatively himself. he often thinks of the worst outcome first but he tries hard to prevent that outcome from happening.
game description, the town's local doctor. he's a bit absentminded and sometimes can seem a bit offputting. he can sometimes be a bit unfriendly but he isn't all bad. he does care deeply for the people of ivy point and often will try to help them out as much as he can even if it has nothing to do with his profession. although. he can tend to be just a little bit strange. something that almost everyone in town seems to know too.
other,
* rintarou shibasaki was not born to the richest of families. he wishes he had been though. he had been an accident child and as a result, his parents had struggled from the very beginning to support them all. much of his childhood and well into his teenage years, he lived in poverty with his family.
* he grew up in the lavender fields of hokkaido. literally. he lived in a small, wooden house that housed his parents, grandparents, as well as his eventual, two younger sisters.
* his parents were often sick from overwork and his grandparents raised him for the most part. he didn't resent them for not being around as often as they needed to be. it was fine as long as they were fine.
* rintarou had never been particularly adept at expressing himself or what he felt like. when he was younger, he had accidentally walked in on his grandparents yelling at his parents for being 'lazy' and out so late. they feared for rintarou. and not wanting his parents to worry about him, ren learned to keep any and all of his complaints to himself. he merely smiled.
* he spent much of his time alone. mainly due to the fact that he spoke very little. and when he did speak, it was hardly something that anyone wanted to hear. he had learned that people wanted honesty and because of it, he rarely was able to keep from saying what was on his mind. he wasn't able to do it at home after all.
* his parents died around the time that rintarou was thirteen. he didn't cry for them although his younger sisters certainly did. they weren't sure how to handle him for much of his life. he didn't speak or show much interest in really anything. and by that point, his silence was no longer to protect his parents.
* his grandparents kicked him out when he was eighteen. 'you're an adult now, we already have to take care of your sisters'. rintarou lived on the streets briefly until one of his teachers caught wind of his living situation and allowed for him to stay there.
* he began to attend a university shortly after his graduation. although what he wanted to do with his life still remained questionable.
* he fell in love once and only once. he had met the girl, kaori, when he had gone on a walk one night. she had been looking for her younger brother and although he was reluctant to help the stranger, he did.
* he found out that she attended his university as well. she was kind and polite. always smiling. constantly happy regardless of the circumstances. she was often sick though and often went back and forth between the hospital. and with each visit, she often noted that ren was changing. and at that time, he had hardly known that she was the one changing him.
* he'd visit frequently. more than often using homework as an excuse. she'd always receive him warmly. sometimes even inviting him to come over. she also taught him how to fold a paper crane. something that he does even now in his free time. it was not long before ren decided to become a doctor, deciding that once he did he would be able to help her.
* her parents sometimes would visit, though often reluctantly. her medical expenses were not cheap. something that even ren knew. her younger brother would never come to visit, though. it was because her parents feared that bringing him to a hospital would only upset him.
* kaori had fallen ill for nearly a month once. and it was in that time that he had arrived at the hospital one fateful day. only to find that she had passed from the world by her own accord. she pulled the cord on herself, leaving a brief note in her wake.
* she wrote that she had been pretending the whole time. she was never happy. she had to pretend so that ren wouldn't worry. no one would. she had given up long before his arrival. it wasn't like he cared about her anyway. he had left not long afterwards, leaving the note there quietly. it hurt to think that she had been pretending to be happy with him there. that their entire relationship, although only existent in his head, was a lie.
* ren finished his education nearly four years later, coming out as a doctor at the age of twenty-five. though, by that point he had already retreated within himself again. he worked in japan for a brief time before finding a job opening in ivy point. he moved there afterwards, wanting to get away from any memory of kaori.
* he established his clinic around the time that he was twenty-six. he accepted all patients, refusing to be paid in reminder of kaori and her family. he didn't want to see others being resented because of the medical expenses. even if it meant that ren had to cut down on his own expenses.
* he met kazehaya kobayashi shortly afterwards. kaze's older brother, hiroki, had asked of him to take care of the other. and because hiro had been his junior he complied, although a bit reluctantly.
* he took care of him for a brief period until something in the other snapped. he hadn't been sure of it at the time. and upon something of a forced visit, kaze had repeated the same things that kaori had written. it wasn't like ren cared about him anyway.
* kazehaya eventually confessed that he loved (as in the past tense) ren. unsure of himself or how he was supposed to feel, he didn't answer. it had been some years since he had even considered it. he didn't want to think about it. he didn't want to remember the same feelings that he had kept to himself for so long for a woman that didn't even think twice about giving her life up.
* since then, they have only spoken sparingly. ren would only come over when kaze's caretakers were desperate. strictly patient and doctor as things should have been. he found himself thinking more and more about the other. how he must have felt the way that kaori did. and how ren, again, had failed to do anything about it.
* ren speaks fluent english due to attending an international school prior to earning his degree. he does sometimes, however, slip on some words that sound familiar.
* he is prone to mocking people without actually intending to. maybe it's because he's bored or maybe it's because he just is that way. there is never any clear definition between the two.
* his secret lover is peach yogurt. there's no particular reason for it outside of the fact that his grandparents would hide his medicine in it when he was sick. naturally, he developed something of a taste for it. although, he stopped hiding his medicine in it since then.
* he plays something of a game with himself when no one's looking. the floor tiles of his clinic are differently colored. and so, ren will look for a certain color and hop from each of those colored tiles to another.
* he has two younger sisters. they presently live in japan with his grandparents. he has not heard from them in over five years. he is not sure that they want to hear from him either and as a result, he had made no effort to contact them again either.
* ren doesn't really eat so to speak. he eats only fruits and raw vegetables. he takes vitamins and supplements to supply his body with enough to function without being beneath the norm. he doesn't quite have the money to afford anything more than that.
* he tends to say rather strange things. things like 'soft earlobes makes you a pervert' or something like calling a person a princess in public. praising people for slapping him around. things like that aren't strange for him to bring up in conversation.
